Croatia and FYR of Macedonia only to participate on self-financing basis in TEMPUS

Tempus is the European Union’s programme which supports the modernisation of higher education in the Partner Countries of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Western Balkans and the Mediterranean region, mainly through university cooperation projects. Partner countries include: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, as well as Kosovo under UN Security Council Resolution 1244.

Croatia, the FYR of Macedonia, Turkey, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland can participate in Tempus project but only on a self-financing basis. Tempus IV is open to higher education institutions and to other organisations active in the field of higher education, provided they are established in the EU Member States or in the Partner Countries.

EUROPEAN UNION: European Commission probes state aid for United Textiles

The European Commission has opened an in-depth investigation to establish whether measures granted by Greece between 2007 and 2010 in favour of United Textiles S.A., a company in financial difficulties, are in line with EU State aid rules.

In particular, the Commission is concerned that United Textiles received aid repeatedly since at least 2007, in breach of the EU rescue and restructuring guidelines. In addition, the Commission aims to investigate whether some of the measures could have transferred an undue advantage to the company's lending banks. The opening of an in-depth investigation allows interested third parties to comment on the measures under assessment. It does not prejudge the outcome of the investigation.

Extended application deadline for the competition for the award for the most successful scientific or artistic research work

With the desire to intensify research on the TTF, Managers team of FP7 project entitled: "Unlocking the Croatian Textile Research Potentials", in May of 2010. year opened contest for best scientific research and artistic research in the field of textiles (theme: the protective materials, clothing and footwear).

Due to concerns of participants of the competition, and also the wish that the new students TTF can enable participation in the contest, the Manager team of FP7 project decided to extend the deadline for submission of papers, along with expansion of awards. For this reason please find enclosed the new text of the competition with new deadlines.
