Title: Introducing chemo-thermal laundering
procedures in laundries for hospital textiles
Project type: Bilateral projects with Slovenia
Croatian coordinator: Prof. Tanja Pušić, PhD
Slovenian coordinator: Sonja Šostar-Turk
Project Summary:
Disinfection of textiles in laundering hospital textiles can be carried out thermally, chemically and chemothermally. Thermal disinfection is carried out in the wash at higher temperatures, the effect achieved depends on the temperature and time of action where the detergent has a weaker role. Chemical and chemothermally procedures include inorganic and organic disinfectants, peroxyacids, alkali, oxidants, halides, alcohols, organic and inorganic compounds with metal ions, phenols, aldehydes, quaternary ammonium compounds, etc. The combination of chemical and thermal disinfection procedure is particularly desirable with textiles that the raw material composition or color can not be washed at higher temperatures. Effect of disinfectants depends on the concentration of resources, time, activity, type of microorganisms and the structure of the environment. This process is important to use disinfectants and the conditions recommended by the institution, for example, procedures tested-Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hygiene und Mikrobiologie and RKI-Robert Koch-Institut.
