Project Summary:
Clothing has always had a certain protective role, so it is justified and that the last time giving out loud in the research of clothing as a protective factor against adverse effects of UV-A, UV-B and UV-C radiation. In a bilateral research project in Slovenia was conducted on cotton, while in Croatia on wool fibers. Research was based on finding the influence of chemical constitution of dyes and color-fiber connection to the UV protection of thin cotton cloth. Also, based on image analysis of fabric and knitted cotton fabric before and after dyeing investigate the impact of color and cotton fabric construction in UV transmittance, as an indicator of the degree of protection against harmful UV radiation.
The protective effect of color (of different chemical constitution and tones) was examined by determining the wool fabric UPF factors with special emphasis on UV-A and UV-B radiation. We also investigate the impact of weather conditions (summer months with the great influence of UV radiation) on the stability of dyed wool fiber in order to (in vitro) tests as well as the protection of wool fiber clothing. These tests were carried out in collaboration with the wool textile industry “Varteks”, Varaždin.
