Title: Clothing with adaptive thermoinsulation
properties
Project funding: Croatian institute of technology (HIT)
Project leader: Prof. Dubravko Rogale, Ph.D.
Project Summary:
Functional prototypes of intelligent clothing, which will be able to adapt thermoinsulation properties depending on environmental temperature and the wearer’s body activities, will be designed. The mentioned intelligent article of clothing will contain sensors to monitor thermodynamical states of the environment and along the body of the wearer of this kind of clothing, measuring assemblies, microcontroller unit for the interpretation of measurement results and making a decision on a functional adaptation, and the implementation of the adaptation using micropneumatic elements. The adaptation of thermoinsulation properties is performed by inflating and deflating thermoinsulating chambers using compressed air; thus, the necessary width of the chambers and their thermoinsulation properties are adapted. The control system permanently monitors thermodynamical states in the environment and in the inside of the garment, and in case of every change optimal adaptation is performed.
During the implementation of the project the creation of functional prototypes of clothing with adaptive thermoinsulaiton properties to the level of the industrial production phase with all technical solutions, investigations and documentation would be initiated. The commercialization of this kind of clothing is expected, especially in the field of special purposes (professional clothing and special purpose clothing).
Key words: clothing, adaptive thermoinsulation properties, micropneumatic system
