World Environment Day 2025, celebrated on June 5th, was promoted in Varaždin with a focus on addressing plastic pollution and promoting collective action for a sustainable future. The global theme was “#BeatPlasticPollution,” and the event included activities like panel discussions, booths, and workshops in Ivan Pavlo II Park., 4th and 5th june 2025. Event was hosted by 3 Faculties: Faculty of Textile Technology, Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering and Faculty of Organization and Informatics of University of Zagreb. This year it was organized in collaboration with other institutions and faculties.

At the exhibition site of the Faculty of Textile Technology, young visitors and other interested parties could observe and touch different sustainable textile fibers and products. This year accent was on the application of biodegradable and environmentally friendly wool fibers in the production of dolls. The availability of wool, especially for handicrafts, is unquestionable, although the benefits of its properties are generally underexploited. Therefore, through a puppet show with dolls made of 100% wool, our effort was to share the knowledge and make a small step forward in raising environmental awareness and caring for the environment. The motive for this presentation is related to the INTERREG DRP0200404 Green-Tex project: Improving the production and consumption of Danube green textiles and clothing, on which is Textile Science Research Center (TSRC) of the University of Zagreb Faculty of Textile Technology participating as one of the partners.
