Jacqueline Domjanić, assistant of the Deparment of Clothing Technology, has successfully defended her doctoral thesis on September 5, 2013 entitled: 3D Surface Models and Geometric Morphometric Analysis of Female Feet (3D površinski modeli i analiza ženskog stopala geometrijskom morfometrijom), in front of a committee by:

Prof. Darko Ujević, Ph.D., University of Zagreb, Faculty of Textile Technology, Croatia O.Univ.-Prof. Dr. phil. Horst Seidler, University of Vienna, Faculty for Life Science, Austria

Assoc. Prof. Zoran Stjepanovič, Ph. D., University of Maribor, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Slovenia

Assist. Prof. Vesna Marija Potočić Matković, Ph.D. University of Zagreb, Faculty of Textile Technology, Croatia

and chaired by Assist. Prof. Slavenka Petrak, Ph.D., University of Zagreb, Faculty of Textile Technology, Croatia

The dissertation is a result of the bilateral project between Croatia and Austria entitled “Athropometry under special consideration of life and early factors with an applied approach for the garment industry” which started in 2010. The basis of the study was set up by the compound technological project Croatian Anthropometric System (CAS) that was launched in 2004.

The thesis was done under the mentorship of Prof. Darko Ujević, Ph.D., University of Zagreb, Faculty of Textile Technology (Department of Clothing Technology) and O.Univ.-Prof. Pr. Horst Seidler University of Vienna, Faculty of Life Science (Department of Anthropology, Department of Theoretical Biology).

The applied method of geometric morphometrics is very important for future analyses in the field of textile technology because it has been proved that the „statistical sensitivity“ of this method may contribute to detection of minor changes in the shape of morphological entities which otherwise cannot be detected with traditional morphometric methods. With the application of geometric morphometrics, a possibility of visual representation of shapes was proved which contributes to the manufacture of socks and footwear with a higher degree of suitability and ensures greater wearing comfort. Guidelines and expectations for potential further research was mentioned.
