Emilija Zdraveva, junior researcher at the TTF, has carried the main research in the group of nanofibers at Deakin University, Australia

Emilija Zdraveva, junior researcher at the Department of Basic, Natural and Technical Sciences, joined Deakin University, Institute for Frontier Materials in Victoria, Australia, in the period from February to August 2013, to carry out part of her PhD thesis research. The Institute for Frontier Materials is situated at Geelong Campus of Deakin University. The Institute includes the Australian Future Fibers and Innovation Centre and the groups with research areas in: Computer Modelling, Corrosion Science, Electromaterials, Functional Nanomaterials, Metals and Light Metals, Micro and Nano Systems, Plasma and Polymers. Its main focus is in technology innovations and materials excellence.

The dissertation is a result of the bilateral project between Croatia and Austria entitled “Athropometry under special consideration of life and early factors with an applied approach for the garment industry” which started in 2010. The basis of the study was set up by the compound technological project Croatian Anthropometric System (CAS) that was launched in 2004.

Presentation of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) through scholarship programs for scientists and scientific projects

On Tuesday, 9th of July 2013 from 10:00 to 12:00 in Zvonimirova street 8 in Hall 13 was held a presentation of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, JSPS). This is a company that operates in 10 states, and the Japanese government through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology stands for it out the most funds of all organizations that work in the field of scientific research.

TSRC organized scientific –professional tour to the Lenzing (A)

Scientific and professional visit of Faculty employees to the Lenzing, a factory for the production of fibres in Heiligenkreutz, near Güssing in Austria, was organized and co-financed by Textile Science Research Centre of Faculty of Textile Technology on May 7th 2013.

The dissemination conference organized within the project: Revitalisation of textile production of Spartium juncem L. – Development of indigenous Croatian product: From weed to fabric

The dissemination conference and promotion of book titled: „From Weed to Fabric“organized within the project: Revitalisation of textile production of Spartium juncem L. – Development of indigenous Croatian product: From weed to fabric were held on 15^th of May 2013 in the Great Hall of the Rectorate of the University of Zagreb. Panel discussion about popularization of science in Croatia was held

Panel discussion on theme „ Popularization of science- why Croatia need it?“ which was held on April the 4th 2013 in the ceremony room of Institut Ruđer Bošković ( IRB) has gathered a number of scienties, popularizers of sciens as well as prominent entrepreneurs and communication proffesionals. Panel discussion was supported by Ministry of science and technology, University of Zagreb and the city of Zagreb. Special guest was Robert Firmhofer, director of Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, also the president of the European network of science centers and museums.

In the first part of event all seven participants held a ten- minute presentation on the popularization of science from their proffesional life’s perspective.

Dunja Potočnik gave an overview of interesting statistics about the interest of young people in science and concluded:

„Research shows that young people of the age of 14 decide that they don’t want to study, and what they don’t want to be in future life. Therefore, popularization of science should primarily focus on children between the ages of 10 and 14.“
