Topic 1.2: Knitted fabric and knitted technical textiles

The impact of technology on the design of knitwear, and impact of fashion and design on the development of knitting technology were explored. Clearly noticeable technological developments inspired by fashion with its demand were discovered, as well as moments when the fashion was slowed down technological development. It was explored in which moments development of technology did encouraged fashion demand. Interesting is also today’s situation where fashion seems to not notice the last 20 years of technological development and technology does not notice the lack of interest in fashion and develop rapidly.
Research is expanded through research of problems in production of knitwear. The quality of cooperation of technologists and designers in the production is investigated through a series of survey questions attempted to determine the relationship between designers and technologists. Statistical analysis of survey questions have come to the conclusion that their jobs often overlap, and that designers and technologists show more similarities in attitudes than expected. We did also consider the quality of education in the field of knitting. Students were tested with VARK test to determine the best methods of transferring knowledge, methods of teaching were modified, and then the ASSIST test showed how well the students accepted the modified curriculum. The results were good and modifications in teaching were permanently introduced.
The samples of polyurethane and knitted fabric composites were manufactured in cooperation with the company Čateks and tested (breaking force, breaking elongated, weld strength, the separation of polyurethane from the knitted fabric, water vapor resistance…). Further production of non-commercial samples of polyurethane composites, of different surface properties and weight and knitted fabrics of various structures and raw material composition, is arranged, which will be examined on schedule during the 2010.
