Name of equipment:

EKA – Electro Kinetic Analyzer

Purpose:

EKA – electro kinetic analyzer is used for measuring zeta-potential (ξ[mV]).The principal of operation of the EKA is streaming current/streaming potential. Working with three measuring cells (cylindrical, rectangular, stamp-cell), the EKA measures potential of granules, powder, fibers, yarns, fabrics and other straight surfaces. The apparatus is software guided.

Model, type, country of origin:

Anton Paar, Austria

Technical characte-ristics:

Measuring range of streaming potential/current: 0 – 2000 mV/nA

Temperature of electrolyte solution: 15 – 40 0C

Dimension: 520 x 530 x 420 mm

Year of origin:  –

Method of
work:

During measuring of the zeta potential of the textile materials with method potential/ streaming current, the solid phase is stationary (material) and the fluid phase is mobile (electrolyte, e.g. KCl). Electrolyte suspension is impressed through capillary system. Streaming potential, Up and streaming current, Ip have occurred due the motion of ions and they quantitatively determine zeta potential.
